Tariffs Are Making Your Holiday Decor More Expensive

This holiday season, tariffs are creating new challenges for families hoping to deck the halls. From the perfect tree to festive wreaths and garlands, holiday decorations may be harder to find—and costlier—than before. Experts are warning of potential shortages of artificial trees and other holiday decorations, alongside higher prices—factors that could affect the holiday experience for families everywhere.

The problem stems from tariffs and disruptions in global trade. Earlier this year, many companies rushed to import holiday decorations ahead of new tariffs. Then, sudden changes in policy caused factories and suppliers to halt production temporarily. Even as production resumed, inventories remained lower than usual.

The impact on prices is significant. Families should expect to pay 10–18% more for decorations than last year. Small and midsize businesses, which often supply family-friendly holiday goods, are particularly affected. For example, the National Tree Company has faced a substantial tariff hit and has raised prices about 10%.

Families can expect fewer options in stores this year—and higher prices. Experts recommend shopping early for specific decorations or collectibles, as supplies may run low. While shelves won’t be empty, limited inventory means popular items are likely to sell out faster than usual.
