If you filed your taxes in May, your refund should be arriving soon. Here's what you can expect and when.
Why Some Families Filed Late

Not everyone files their taxes by the usual April deadline. Some taxpayers filed in May because:
They requested an extension to have more time
The IRS gave them extra time due to natural disasters like severe weather or wildfires in their area
When to Expect Your Tax Refund
Your refund timing depends on how you filed and how you want to receive your money:
Filed Online + Direct Deposit (Fastest Option)
If you filed between May 1-12: Your refund has likely already arrived
If you filed between May 13-31: Expect your refund around June 21st
Filed Online + Paper Check
If you filed between May 1-12: Your check should arrive by June 9th
If you filed between May 13-31: Look for it between June 10-28
Filed Paper Returns (Slowest Option)
Paper returns take much longer to process - possibly not until late July
This applies whether you chose direct deposit or a paper check
How Much to Expect
The average tax refund this year has been $3,324, though your amount will vary based on your specific tax situation.
Track Your Refund
You don't have to wait and wonder. The IRS makes it easy to check on your refund:
Use the "Where's My Refund?" tool on the IRS website
You'll need your Social Security number, ITIN number, filing status, and expected refund amount
Important note: These tools only track federal refunds. If you're expecting a state refund too, you'll need to check your state's revenue department website separately.
The bottom line: If you filed in May, your refund is on its way. Most people who filed online should see their money by the end of June.
