Today Is World Contraception Day: Supporting Families with Love and Care

World contraception day

Today, on World Contraception Day, we pause to recognize the importance of thoughtful family planning.  In the United States, 9 in 10 families use birth control to prayerfully and responsibly discern when to welcome children, honoring God’s gift of family while ensuring they can provide a stable, nurturing home.

When pregnancies are planned, mothers and children thrive, parents can pursue education and careers, and families are better prepared to provide loving, stable homes. Contraception also strengthens economic security by giving couples the ability to time and space pregnancies, helping them achieve educational, career, and financial goals while building the stability needed to care for their children and strengthen their families.

For pro-life Christians, World Contraception Day is a chance to affirm that contraception protects life. By reducing unintended pregnancies, it lowers health risks for young mothers, ensures children are welcomed into prepared homes, and empowers families to make thoughtful, life-affirming decisions.

Yet despite these clear benefits, contraception is under threat. Here in the U.S., some leaders are attempting to roll back protections for birth control, ignoring its vital role in supporting family health and stability.

On this World Contraception Day, let us lift our voices in prayer and in action. Every pregnancy should be wanted, every child supported, and every family given the chance to thrive. By protecting access to contraception, we strengthen families, nurture communities, and live out our calling to love and care for one another.
